BisqueBook Privacy Policy

Effective date: September 29, 2026 Updated: September 29, 2026 Support: glaze@bisquebook.app

1. What BisqueBook is

BisqueBook is a studio glaze-test journal for ceramic artists. You photograph test tiles, record recipes, cone and atmosphere notes, group tiles into series and kiln loads, and keep wet-to-fired results side by side on a shelf that lives on your iPhone. There is no sign-up and no BisqueBook account. Capturing, archiving, comparing, and exporting share cards all work without a network connection.

The only feature that sends your content off the device is optional AI (Glaze Read, Compare, voice-note structuring, and share-line rewrite). It uses DeepSeek, a third-party AI service, and it runs only after you tap Allow AI features. AI results stay as drafts until you confirm writing them onto a card.

BisqueBook contains no advertising, analytics, attribution, or crash-reporting SDKs, and it does not use Google Firebase. It does not track you across apps or websites owned by other companies for advertising or advertising measurement, and it does not share data with data brokers.

2. Information you create on device

The studio journal is saved in the app’s private storage on this iPhone: tile cards, titles, glaze recipes, cone, stage and atmosphere, defect notes and corrections, series, kiln-load plans, attached tile photos, voice recordings of your dictation, their transcripts, and any AI drafts you confirmed. BisqueBook has no server that receives or backs up this journal, and we cannot see it. If your iPhone backup (for example, iCloud Backup) includes app data, that backup is handled by Apple under your Apple settings.

The app also keeps a few local preferences, such as whether you have allowed AI features.

3. Device permissions

iOS asks for each permission the first time you use the related feature:

  • Camera — photograph wet and fired test tiles, glaze surfaces, glaze buckets, or kiln placements for a card
  • Photos — pick existing tile or glaze photos; add-only access saves portrait share cards and compare images you export
  • Microphone — record dictation of recipes, atmosphere, and defect notes; the recording is kept with the card on the device
  • Speech Recognition — turn your dictation into text for the card. This uses Apple’s speech recognition, which may process the audio on Apple’s servers under Apple’s privacy policy; BisqueBook does not receive that audio on any server of its own

If you deny a permission, the features that don’t need it keep working, and you can change your choice later in iOS Settings.

4. Optional DeepSeek AI (Guideline 5.1.2(i))

Before the first AI request, BisqueBook shows an AI data sharing screen that explains what is sent, with a link to DeepSeek’s privacy policy. Choose Allow AI features to proceed or Not now to keep working without AI. After you allow it, these requests go over HTTPS to DeepSeek (api.deepseek.com):

  • Glaze Read — the tile photo, plus its stage and cone, and your dictation transcript when you choose to fuse it
  • Compare — the two tile photos you place side by side, with their short tile labels
  • Voice-note structuring — the dictation transcript of that card
  • Share-line rewrite — the tile title, cone, and a short AI summary of the tile

DeepSeek processes these requests under its own policy: https://cdn.deepseek.com/policies/en-US/deepseek-privacy-policy.html

Nothing goes to DeepSeek before you allow AI features, and no account, name, email, or device identifier is attached to these requests by BisqueBook. You can switch Allow AI glaze features off anytime under Me → Privacy & AI. Capture, archive, compare wall, and manual notes keep working with AI off.

5. No tracking and no third-party measurement

Purpose

BisqueBook does not track you across apps or websites owned by other companies. It never asks iOS for permission to track, does not read the advertising identifier (IDFA), and does not build profiles about you. There is no advertising measurement or attribution in this version. The app’s privacy manifest declares no tracking and no tracking domains.

What happens if you decline

Because BisqueBook never asks to track you, there is no tracking prompt to answer. The choices that do exist are the iOS device permissions in Section 3 and the AI choice in Section 4. Saying no to any of them only turns off the feature that needs it; the rest of the journal keeps working.

Third parties

  • DeepSeek receives only the AI requests described in Section 4, and only after you allow AI features.
  • Apple provides iOS speech recognition for dictation and, if you use them, iCloud Backup and the App Store.
  • The in-app Privacy Policy and User Agreement pages are loaded from our Cloudflare Pages site (pages.dev). As with any website, the hosting provider receives standard request data such as your IP address and browser details to deliver the page.

No other third party receives data from BisqueBook, and we do not sell personal data.

How to withdraw

To stop AI sharing, turn off Allow AI glaze features under Me → Privacy & AI. To change Camera, Photos, Microphone, or Speech Recognition access, open iOS Settings → BisqueBook. To erase journal content, delete tiles or series in the app, or delete the app to remove everything stored on the device.

6. Purchases and advertising

BisqueBook is free to download. This version has no in-app purchases, subscriptions, or digital studio credits and does not use StoreKit. It shows no ads.

7. Children

BisqueBook is a studio tool for adults and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

8. Retention and deletion

Journal content stays on your iPhone until you delete it in the app or remove the app. AI drafts you never confirm are not written to a card. BisqueBook keeps no server copy of your journal, so there is nothing for us to delete remotely. For how DeepSeek retains AI requests, see its policy linked in Section 4.
